Pierres d'Orient et d'Occident

See how much nicer Hermès' photography is than mine.  :)
I took several pictures of my scarf and it looked like splotches of colour on black. I finally resorted to scanning in the photo above from the 1988 edition of "How To Wear your Hermès Scarf". Its colour is more true to the scarf than the ones below. (sigh)
This was my first Hermès scarf purchase. Not only is it stunning, it is a testimony to how tough this company's scarves are.

I'd picked it up from the Hong Kong duty-free store, and wore it as a belt the moment I got into Singapore. The mandatory first stop in Singapore is, of course, a Food Court selling local food.  :)
I then proceeded to drop a tablespoonful of chilli sambal on the scarf belt. My sister gasped. I scooped it off with a plastic spoon (regulation tableware at a food court), and wiped the scarf with a paper towel, calmly saying it'll be all right while a million alarms were shrieking in my brain.

What do you know?

Till today I can't find the spot where the chilli landed.  :)

Please DON'T try this at home, and definitely not on a white scarf. :D

Here is the design on the centre of the scarf. If you click on the picture above, and the next two pictures below, it will lead to a larger version.

Most Hermès scarves from the 1970s onwards will have a copyright sign.

This scarf's design is based on marquetry using exotic wood from the orient as well as rare wood from local sources. There are also precious stones inlaid, as the word 'pierres' in the title refers to.

The artist's signature, discreetly part of the wood border. Zoe is a most talented artist and designer. Her scarves are of very different styles, some intricate and detailed as this one, and some flamboyant and wild like 'Aube' which was done for the Japanese rock group 'The Alfee'.
