This was written, as you can see below, wa-aay back. I thought it was gone forever when DejaNews made accessible only usenet posts from after mid '99 (in the midst of a service upgrade of course! Please let me know if they have returned the older posts to their service. :) This version was found while I was going through an archive which had accidentally been transfered along with a newsreader from my older computer.

Why bother to put it up?

Well.. aside from the obvious reasons (I wrote this! I can plaster it all over the .net!!) I actually had people e-mail me that it had helped them. Nice. Of course, I didn't come up with this all by myself, it's just some common-sensical steps I've gathered along the way. Believe me, if someone dumps *you*, that person isn't worth agonising over. ^_^

Here goes! :)

Some random thoughts:

First, the depressing bit you already know. It takes time. Lots of time.
Sometimes I suspect it will be the rest of our lives; but that's mainly
'cos of the embarassing things that happened during the
relationship..*ahem*.. those things that make you hope you never have to
see them again.

Take care of yourself. Exercise. Eat sensibly. Get enough sleep.
Looking good will make you feel better. Let others feel jealous for a
change.^_^

Do something you like that will be an ongoing project. Maybe it's that
hobby you'd always wanted to pursue, but was too busy to. Well... you've
got time now.

Pamper yourself. Treat yourself to that special something you thought was
too expensive, too whatever. (Just don't spend all your food and rental
money on it. ;)
It might be something as simple as taking an hour or two of your free time
each week, indulging in a storybook, watching cartoons.. something you
might have thought silly, but makes you happy.

It's alright to get angry with the other person. Don't be a worm wallowing
in despair. It's normal to feel angry.

Whatever happened, it happened. Analyse it later. Meanwhile, think of your
good points. If you can't think of any (it happens) ask a close friend.

When you don't fall all to pieces thinking about it, you might want to tell
a friend about what happened. Choose your confidante *carefully*. Someone
who'll listen, accept you, and NOT broadcast it to the rest of society.
Choose someone sympathetic and good-looking. (All right, just joking about
the good looking part. Don't flame me. :)

It takes time.

Time passes quickly when you treat yourself well, and do what you think is
important.

Take care. :)
