Black Heaven (Kachou O-ji)Song Name: Cautionary Warning/OP Song Name: into the arena/IE Other Info: Kachou O-ji has often been described as the anime for mid-life crisis ex-metal rockers. ;) Arrangements and excerpts of the OP is used in the anime itself. There is a John Sykes fan page here. Now given up and link leads to the official page. Michael Schenker might also have written more music than the IE insert song, since Black Heaven's music was modelled after the Michael Schenker Group's. Rock themes by Hironobu Kageyama and Riyu Konaka were also used in the anime. Added 1st Nov '01 On the 8th of September, Scott Fujimoto asked for help in raa.misc to find origin of the songs the Black Heaven episode titles paid tribute to. He already had most of the probable original songs. Metlhd3138 and Dyson also gave their views. (If you'll like to see their posts, they can be found via a search on groups.goggle.com) With the help of Google and CDNOW I pared down some of the 'not so probables' and filled in the remaining blanks. When there were more than one song, I chose the heavy metal title. <G> I'd also chanced upon the lyrics while using Google to check on the songs, most of them are quite relevant to the episodes. This care for detail and deep knowledge of the music is what makes Black Heaven so special to me. Here they are:
Rock Bottom -- Michael Schenker,
Stairway to Heaven -- Led Zepplin,
All Night Long -- Rainbow,
Hot House -- Charlie Parker,
Space Child -- U.F.O.
Space Truckin' -- Deep Purple,
These are the Days -- Queen,
Walk Away -- Dokken,
In Need -- Grand Funk Railroad,
All Right Now -- Free,
Get Off of My Cloud -- Rolling Stones,
Ten Years Ago -- Roy Harper,
Sweet Emotion -- Aerosmith,
Into the Arena -- Michael Schenker,
The End -- The Doors.

Bubblegum Crisis![]()
Anyone who has come across BGC will mention it as the anime OVA with rock music in it. And Priss. (Here guys, have a hanky, wipe your chin! ^_^)
Bubblegum Crisis 2040Why no pic for 2040? Cos I didn't take to the new character designs that's why. The music of BGC2040 is definitely rock (much more so than the OVA music), which is one of the reasons that I like the BGC2040 vocals more than I like many other vocals from recent anime. There are some punk and grunge elements, and at least two ballads, but overally this is one of the few anime series that has actual, raw rock music on its soundtracks. The BGM, OTOH, is mostly techno-grunge, so whether or not *that* qualifies is open to debate. Sarah Davis I think _some_ of the BGC2040 music would go under rock, albeit heavy rock.. but some is just too technoish to apply. Thorn I think it's rock. Which sort of rock, I'm not sure... (But I'd bet David Watson would know - have you asked this over on r.a.a.music?) Rob Kelk
Thank you for the namedrop, Rob. Now, on to the music snobbery: Another note from Scott:You mentioned BGC2040. Since you have Black Heaven ep titles, you'd probably want the origins of the BGC2040 ep titles too. --from Rob Kelk's BGC FAQ-- Are all the episode titles taken from songs? Most of them are song or album titles, yes. Here's a list, in episode order, with the newsgroup's best guesses listed: Can't Buy a Thrill an album by Steely Dan Fragile an album by Yes (also a song by Sting, but that piece doesn't fit the mood of the series) Keep Me Hanging On sung by Diana Ross & The Supremes covered by Vanilla Fudge covered by Kim Wilde Machine Head sung by Bush Rough and Ready an album by Jeff Beck Get It On sung by T-Rex Look At Yourself sung by Uriah Heep an album by Uriah Heep Fire Ball sung by Deep Purple an album by by Deep Purple My Nation Underground an album by Julian Cope Woke Up with a Monster sung by Cheap Trick Sheer Heart Attack sung by Queen Made in Japan an album by Deep Purple Atom Heart Mother an album by Pink Floyd Shock Treatment sung by The Ramones Minute by Minute sung by The Doobies sung by Michael McDonald I Surrender sung by Cheap Trick Moving Waves an album by Focus We Built This City sung by Starship Are You Experienced? sung by Jimi Hendrix One of These Night "One of These Nights" was sung by The Eagles Close to the Edge an album by Yes Physical Graffiti an album by Led Zeppelin Hydra an album by Toto Light My Fire sung by The Doors Walking on the Moon sung by The Police Still Alive & Well sung by Johnny Winter

To-y
To a query as to which songs in this very stylish OAV are rock, General Chow says, "The OP : "Silent Song" is definitely rock. Love the guitar/drum combo in the middle of it. Another song named "Lemon no Yuuki" probably qualifies too." oops..! Kev very rightly pointed out that "Lemon no Yuuki" is the OP and "Silent Song" is the insert song. Thanks, Kev! I reallt should stop updating at 3am in the morning. ^_^; Do go to the ultimate To-y website to find out more about it's music, the story, and the wonderful group of people who were brought together to create it.
