This time around I went to Rome and Frankfurt, two cities which differ in pretty much all imaginable aspects.
Rome is a truly hectic city, most of the time I had trouble telling which streets were pedestrian and which were not. It basically seems to fluctuate back and forth between these two possibilities, though...
Some of the city highlights are the Fontana di Trevi and the Colosseum.
It's amusing to note that certain opinions are held the world throughout...
The Vatican is a fantastic place, and the cupola of the St Peter's Cathedral offers spectacular views of the city. The interior is also breathtaking!
The surroundings of the Cathedral are quite amusing. I can almost picture the guard below thinking I could kill you in four point six seconds.
A signpost, a really awesome lion, and a fountain. Rome has tons of incredible fountains, most of them offering potable water. It's actually quite fun drinking from those fountains, it really feels "Roman". I like the cloudy sky in the last picture.
More fountains. The composition of the middle image is interesting, I think.
At the Vatican museum and the Sistine Chapel. I don't know what the aperture in the first image was, but it makes for interesting framing.
More sculptures at the Vatican. Busy day, too!
Some statues against the bright blue sky. The weather was improving!
The middle work below is by Bernini. His Apollo and Daphne, together with the Pietà, are my favourite sculptures. At the right a night-time take of the Colosseum. Upon leaving I came across a rare sight: an absolutely deserted view of the Spanish Steps...
Rome to Frankfurt was an all-day train trip through Austria, arriving to a whole different world...
Skyscrapers! Frankfurt is so very proud of its skyscrapers, and they are indeed some beautiful towers. Why, even the people dress like their buildings!
Actually, a skyscraper festival was taking place, with lots of activities pertraining to their architectural and engineering prowess.
Sadly, the stock market did not always cooperate...
There are, of course, wonderful museums, an beautiful churches. In particular, the Köln Cathedral is certainly one of the the most incredible examples of Gothic architecture.
I also went to Stuttgart, which impressed me with its sculptures and graffiti!
I had a few nice pictures of Toronto and Montreal which I'll just add here as an addendum. First the lovely Montreal:
And a couple of Toronto shots at a winter show downtown.
Hope you liked the pictures!
