Introduction

I recently bought a Canon Powershot S1 1S to complement my trustworthy A70. Not being familiar with it I'm still in the process of learning how to use it. Here are some of the pictures I've taken with it so far.

Sample

When I was in Amsterdam I purchased an automatic Oris Big Crown Original which I've been very happy with. The illustration beneath it is actually the cover of Masakazu Katsura's L-Side which I bought in Tokyo. I'm not good at taking this type of shots, it's just kind of "OK".

I accidentally used a non-formatted CF card which was in my other camera and the photograph number got set to the one on the A70. Oh well.

At the zoo

The yearly zoo trek. The 10x optical zoom starts to show its stuff, such as in the close-up of the antelope. The auto-focus is not very good, but I did like how the hyena picture turned out. I was surprised how well the low-light snake shot looks, no doubt helped by the camera's lens stabilizing mechanism (I don't use a tripod).

A nice flower and some more critters:

A trip to Midland

Midland is a quaint little town outside Toronto, next to Georgian Bay. A ferry ride provides lots of picturesque opportunities.

Midland itself is tiny, but it has a beautiful park and a glorious golden lake...

Toronto summer sights

What can I say? I'm a fan of vegetation (chromatic aberration and all :)

There are various small festivals taking place throughout the city. One which was particularly spectacular featured Compagnie Off from France and it was amazing. I could have never taken these pictures with the A70 (which is still a great camera IMHO). I am particularly fond of the second image!

Toronto winter sights

A few months have passed since I've updated this page. Winter has started! I haven't taken that many pictures, though. Nonetheless there are a few nice festivities taking place. Below are a few photographs from the last couple of months...

Well, that's all for now. I took all pictures with my Canon S1 1S and performed some minor digital manipulations afterwards. So far I'm quite happy with the camera, but I've only taken a few hundred pictures. I hope you enjoyed the gallery, thanks for reading!
